AppExamPin Exam for Android and iOS

The secure exam app for Android, iPhone and iPad.

ExamPin Exam takes your organization’s exams on a phone or tablet. Participants scan the QR code on their exam slip, sign in, and the app keeps the exam on screen and records every time they leave it.

Free for participants · No ads · Android 8.0+ and iOS 15+

From the slip to the last answer, on one screen.

Your exam cell ticks App on the exam and prints the slip. Participants need nothing else.

  1. Participant

    Scan the exam slip

Scan the QR code on the exam slip, or type the organization and the 8-character exam code.

  2. Participant

    Check the exam card

See the exam before starting: its title, duration, marks, and when it opens and closes.

  3. Participant · the exam

    Sign in and write

Sign in with the username and password from your organization. The timer starts and the app takes over the screen.

  4. Organization

    Marked on submit

Answers reach your organization as they are given, and the attempt is marked when it is submitted. Results appear when your organization releases them.

Locked down as far as each phone allows.

Android and iOS give apps different powers. ExamPin Exam uses every public one, and tells the participant what it records before an exam starts.

Screen pinning on Android

When the exam starts, the app asks to pin the screen. Declining is recorded as a leave, and the exam keeps asking until the screen is pinned.

Screenshots blocked on Android

Screenshots and the recent-apps preview come out black. On Android 12 and later, other apps’ floating windows are hidden during the exam.

Screenshots recorded on iOS

iPhone and iPad can’t block screenshots, so each one is recorded. While the screen is being recorded, the questions are hidden.

Guided Access on iPhone and iPad

Before the exam, the app recommends Guided Access with Apple’s own how-to, so the participant can lock the device to the exam.

Every leave counted

Going to another app or the home screen, or split screen, is recorded with its time and counts towards your exam’s limit.

No copy and paste

Copy and paste are blocked during the exam, and on iOS 18 and later the system’s Writing Tools are turned off.

Calm for participants, safe for every answer.

Most people sit an app exam on mobile data, in a room you don’t control. The app is built for that.

Saved on the device first

Every answer is saved on the phone or tablet at once, encrypted, and sent when it is online. If the connection drops, keep answering.

Reopens where it stopped

If the app is closed by accident, it opens again on the exam with the saved answers. The clock kept running, and the reopen is recorded.

Time always on screen

The time left is always visible, with reminders at 5 minutes and 1 minute. When time is up, the answers are submitted automatically.

Answered at a glance

See how many questions are answered and jump to the next unanswered one. Move between questions freely.

Nothing recorded before the exam

The home screen says what the app records during an exam. Nothing is recorded until an exam starts.

Camera only for the QR code

On iPhone and iPad the camera opens when the participant taps Scan, and no picture is kept. On Android the scan uses Google’s code scanner, so the app asks for no camera permission.

What the app stores ask for, and how it complies.

Apple and Google review every app that takes over a screen. ExamPin Exam uses only public, documented features, so it stays within their rules:

  • Screen pinning on Android shows the system’s own consent prompt. The app never asks to be a device administrator or for accessibility access.
  • Guided Access on iPhone and iPad is recommended, never forced, because iOS doesn’t let an app lock the device by itself.
  • The home screen says what is recorded during an exam, there is a way out before the exam starts and after it ends, and the privacy notice lists exactly what is collected.

When an exam allows both, the same link opens in the app where it is installed, and in a fullscreen browser everywhere else.

Questions about the app.

More in the full FAQ, or ask us in your demo request.

Is the ExamPin Exam app free?

Yes, for participants: no price, no in-app purchases and no ads. The exams themselves are created by an organization that uses ExamPin.

Which phones and tablets does it run on?

Android phones and tablets on Android 8.0 or later, and iPhone and iPad on iOS 15 or later.

Does the app need the internet for the whole exam?

Only to sign in and to submit. In between, answers are saved on the device and sent when the connection is back, so a dropped connection loses nothing.

Can someone use the app without an organization?

No. The app opens exams that an organization created in ExamPin, and the username and password come from that organization.

What does the app record during an exam?

From the moment an exam starts: the answers and when each was given, when the exam started and was submitted, each time the participant left it, screenshots and screen recordings on iPhone and iPad, when the device went offline, and the device’s model and system version. Never location, contacts, photos or an advertising ID.
