Cost and trying it
How much does ExamPin cost?
It depends on the size of your institution and how often you run exams, and there is no hardware to buy. Book a free demo and we’ll put a plan together with you. If you already have a quote from another exam provider for the same exams, send it to us and we’ll beat it.
Do we have to buy computers or a server?
No. Offline exams run on the Windows, macOS or Linux computers you already have, with no server of your own. Online exams run in a browser or in the ExamPin Exam app, which is free for participants.
Can we try it before we commit?
Yes. Start with a free demo, then run a real exam with one batch and compare it with your last paper exam. Roll out further only when your exam cell is happy.
Exams and devices
What are the three ways to take an ExamPin exam?
On computers with the offline exam file, in a browser from a link or QR code, or in the ExamPin Exam app on Android and iOS. Your exam cell ticks one or more for each exam, and the paper, the answer key and the results page stay the same.
Do offline exams need the internet?
No. The exam file runs on each computer with no internet and no server. Your exam cell needs the internet only to write the paper and to mark the answer files in the console.
What happens if the internet drops during an online exam?
Participants keep answering. Every answer is saved on the device and sent when the connection is back. They need the internet to sign in and to submit; in between, a drop loses nothing, though the clock keeps running.
Which devices and browsers work?
Offline exams: Windows, macOS or Linux computers with Java, a free one-time install. Browser exams: Chrome, Safari and other browsers that can open the exam fullscreen; in-app browsers such as WhatsApp’s, and Safari on iPhone, can’t, so they are turned away. The app: Android 8.0 or later, and iPhone and iPad on iOS 15 or later.
What kinds of questions can we set?
Multiple choice (including more than one correct answer), true or false, and reading passages are marked automatically. Descriptive answers are collected too, and faculty enter those marks beside the objective score. Questions can include images, and a question bank can be imported from Excel.
What if the power goes out during an offline exam?
Nothing is lost. Answers are saved every few seconds, and the exam resumes exactly where it stopped. The time away still counts, so nobody gains extra time.
Cheating and security
How does ExamPin stop cheating?
Every exam is locked down: the offline exam takes over the whole computer, a browser exam runs only fullscreen, and the app pins the screen on Android. Every attempt to leave is recorded with its time, lab screens turn amber or red for the invigilator, and each exam can end an attempt after a set number of leaves. On computers, question and option order are shuffled for each student.
Is there webcam or AI proctoring?
No. ExamPin doesn’t use the camera or microphone during an exam, and doesn’t guess at cheating. It locks the screen, records every leave, and lets each exam decide whether leaving only warns or ends the exam.
Can the answer key leak?
No. The answer key is sealed in the cloud the moment the exam is built. The exam file that goes to the lab holds only the questions, and online exams send the questions only after sign-in, never the key.
Can a student get extra time?
No. In an online exam the deadline is fixed when the attempt starts, and the server keeps the time. In the lab, time away after a power cut still counts. If someone genuinely needs a fresh start online, your team resets the attempt with a reason, and the old attempt stays on record.
Results and data
How fast are results ready?
Online attempts are marked the moment they are submitted. For offline exams, drop the folder of answer files into the console and every script is marked in one go, in minutes. Written answers wait for faculty to grade them.
Who can see a question paper and its results?
Only the people the exam’s owner adds, to edit or only to view; everyone else, admins included, can’t open it. Students see their own results only when you release them, and you choose whether they see their score, their answers, or both.
Who owns the exam data?
Your organization. What an online exam records is kept with your organization’s results for as long as you keep them. ExamPin never sells it and uses it for nothing else, and the privacy notice lists exactly what is collected.
Setup and support
How long does setup take?
Java on each computer is a free one-time install your IT admin can do in minutes, and online exams need nothing installed. We set up the first computers with your IT team, walk your exam cell through writing and marking a paper, and stay on hand for your pilot exam.
How do we get help?
Staff and students can raise a request inside the console, and we answer there. You can also use the support page or email support@toinfy.com.
