Less marking, more teaching.

A paper test costs a school twice: once to print, and again in the evenings teachers spend marking it.

Tests on paper With ExamPin
  • Teachers spend evenings marking objective papers

Multiple choice, true or false and passages marked for you

  • Printing a paper for every class and section

Nothing printed: one exam file for the whole lab

  • Copying from the next desk

Question and option order shuffled for each student

  • Totals added by hand, then checked again

Every total calculated, nothing typed in

  • Wi-Fi in the computer lab can’t be trusted

Offline tests need no internet at all

  • A power cut in the middle of a test

Answers saved every few seconds, the test resumes

Simple enough for every teacher.

If a teacher can type a question, they can set an ExamPin test. Your lab staff copy one file, and the rest is marking you no longer do.

Write a test in the browser

Type questions into the ExamPin console from any computer, or import a question bank from Excel. No software to install for teachers.

Pictures and passages

Add images to questions, and set reading passages with their own questions underneath.

Old computers welcome

Windows, macOS or Linux, old or new, with Java installed once. Nothing new to buy.

Tablets too

Online tests run in the ExamPin Exam app on Android tablets and iPads, or in a browser that can go fullscreen.

Results when you release them

Students see their score, their answers or both only when you release them, signed in with Google using the email on your list.

Help to get started

We set up the first computers with your IT staff, walk your teachers through writing and marking a test, and stay on hand for the first one.

A fair test in a busy lab.

The test takes over the whole screen. Taskbars, menus and other apps are out of reach, copy and paste are blocked, and answering is with the mouse only. Each student gets the questions and options in a different order, so the next screen doesn’t help.

The top of every screen changes colour with behaviour: white when all is normal, amber for suspicious key presses, and red for a try to leave the test. One glance from the front of the lab tells the teacher on duty which seat to walk to.

Every test is visible only to the teachers you add, and every mark change is on record with a name and a time. More on how this works on the offline exam software page.

What schools ask first.

More in the full FAQ, or ask us in your demo request.

Our computers are old. Will it run?

Most likely. The exam runs on Windows, macOS or Linux computers, old or new, once Java is installed. Book a demo and we’ll try it on your own lab.

Do students need an email address?

Not to write a test: they sign in with the ID and password your school gives them. To see released results online, a student signs in with Google, using an email on your list.

Can we use tablets instead of the computer lab?

Yes, for online tests. The ExamPin Exam app runs on Android tablets and iPads, and the tablets need the internet to sign in and to submit. Answers given in between are saved on the tablet if the Wi-Fi drops.

What kinds of questions can teachers set?

Multiple choice (including more than one correct answer), true or false, and reading passages are marked automatically. Descriptive answers are collected too, and teachers enter those marks beside the objective score.

What does it cost a school?

It depends on the number of students and how often you run tests, and there is no hardware to buy. Book a free demo and we’ll put a plan together with you. If you already have a quote for the same tests, send it to us and we’ll beat it.

Your next unit test could be your first paperless one.
